Tot Combo
Does your little one love to dance around when they hear music? Do they love admiring themselves in the mirror? Do they love glitter, sparkles, and bling? Boys and girls will love this class! This class is for them!
While introducing a little magic in the art of dance your child will learn to dance with movement activities, props, themes, music, laughter, and most of all FUN! Class for your 3-5 year old includes a combination of learning basic steps in tap, jazz, hip hop, and ballet. Students will learn as a group, but also have individual one on one time with a teacher and/or assistant. They will learn basic choreography of a structured dance to chosen songs, depending on the recital theme. They will also have basic instruction on critique and development of steps.
The class does a tap dance and a ballet dance at our spring dance recital with a purchased sparkly dance costume, and usually one dance at the Christmas performance with a toned–down affordable dance outfit in early December.
Dress code for this class includes dance leotards, tights, leggings, skirts, shorts, dance dress, etc. Basically, clothing they can move in. They will need black tap shoes and pink ballet shoes.
Ages 6-8 & 9-12
Tap/Jazz/Hip Hop
This class adds on what the tot student has already learned but class is a little more structured. In tap, they will start up as a group doing tap warm ups such as toe taps, shuffles, shuffle hop steps, etc. Then we will move individually down the room with travelling steps. Class is ended with choreography for a dance for the performances.
The Jazz/Hip Hop section starts out as a group doing warms ups, stretches, and strength training. Dancers then move down the room individually with travelling steps using technique to approach each step correctly. Choreography will then be at the end of each class to practice their performances.
Advanced Teen Jazz/Hip Hop/Tap
This class is essentially the same as the younger groups but is more focused on technique and correcting of technique. More turns, jumps, and travelling steps will be introduced as they advance as well. Choreography can make this class run over in time and the instructor may ask for more time occasionally.
Ages 6-8 & 9-12
Ballet
Ballet will be focused on overall technique, core movement, appropriate posture, and developing an overall disciplined body. We start with 30 minutes at the barre doing various exercises that repeat on both sides. Then we stretch using the barre. As a group we move to the center and work on the same techniques without use of a barre, and introduce turns and balance. The end of each class works on choreography using the technique learned above to put together steps into a dance.
Advanced Teen Pointe and Ballet
This class builds on the younger classes. Pointe is a very structured class that involves the student having had at least 5 years of structured ballet class. Students must be at least 12-13 years old, depending on their growth. Posture should be able to hold the center in order to properly balance.
Their ankles must be strong enough to enable to stand on pointe shoes. It is not simply being able to “go up on your toes”, the teacher will assess whether the student is ready for pointe shoes or not. This is very important for the safety of the dancer.
Ballet classes will be the same structure as far as barre work, center work, and choreography. It will just be built around how advanced the dancers are on pointe shoes.
